Questions for your MRI team
A short conversation before your appointment can help you find out what is specific to your scan.
Start with what matters most
You could say: “I’m anxious about this MRI, especially the enclosed space. I’d like to talk about the plan before the appointment.” If a previous attempt stopped, mention that.
Questions to choose from
- Which scanner is planned, and how will I be positioned?
- How much time should I allow for the whole visit?
- How will you communicate with me?
- How do I signal if I need help or want to stop?
- What hearing protection and comfort options are available?
- What should I know about the equipment near my head?
- Can someone support me, and what safety screening would they need?
- Who should I contact about medication or other medical options?
- Which instructions do I need to follow about food, drink, medicines, or arrival?
A message you can adapt
I’m worried about my MRI and would like to discuss support before the appointment. The part I’m most concerned about is ____. Could you tell me who I should speak with and what options may be available?
You can leave out anything you do not want to explain in writing. Use the center’s official contact details and avoid sending unnecessary medical information.
After the conversation
Keep the agreed instructions and the name or contact route for further questions. Ask again if something is unclear. A general preparation guide cannot override the center’s instructions.
