How long will your MRI visit take?
The useful question is the time for your own appointment, not a single number for every MRI.
Ask about scan time and visit time
The time spent scanning is only part of the visit. Arrival procedures, safety screening, positioning, contrast if needed, and any additional preparation can affect the total time.
Ask the center what to allow for your particular examination. A scan may include several sequences with different lengths.
Ask for the information that helps you
If timing is a source of anxiety, ask whether staff can explain the next stage or give updates when appropriate. They may not be able to predict every pause or change.
Avoid making a timer into a promise
A timer at home can be an optional rehearsal tool. It does not reproduce the scan or tell you how long you will be able to remain in the scanner. Choose a manageable practice and stop if you want to.
Plan the rest of the day with the center
If your care includes medicine to help you relax, ask about preparation, transport, and aftercare. Follow the instructions for that plan instead of relying on a general schedule.
